Committee
The Africa Committee works closely with Alphonsine Kabagabo, Regional Director, Africa Region based at WAGGGS World Bureau in London.
The members of the Africa Committee are:
Marie-Anne Tofani Fofana - Chairman
Guinea (Age: 51-60)
Marie-Anne was first elected to the Africa Committee in 2004. She is the Chairman of the General Assembly of her association. Marie-Anne is a retired civil servant. Marie-Anne would like to continue to promote rural Guiding and defend the rights of women and children. She also sees greater focus being placed on the HIV/AIDS programme. In her free time she likes to work on a farm and do agriculture.
Ntombizine Madyibi - Vice Chairman
South Africa (Age: 41-50) Zine is the Deputy Chief Commissioner of her association. Professionally she is a Chief Financial Officer. She hopes to contribute towards the socio/economic emancipation of girls and young women in Africa by using her skills and rich experience to strengthen advocacy for a better future for the African Girl Child.
Zine also hopes to be an instrument for easing the plight of girls and young women in Africa. She sees the region’s priorities as being increased membership in Member Organizations, financial stability and ensuring that girls are trained and exposed to improve their skills and confidence. In her free time she enjoys reading, listening to the television news and exercise.
Akuélé Yévona Adanlete Lawson
Togo (Age: 41-50)
Yevona is the International Commissioner of her association. Professionally she is a Social Worker and Director of Medical Centre of the autonoumous Port of Lomé in Togo. She hopes to serve the region and ensure its development and expansion of Girl Guiding/Girl Scouting in Africa.
She would like to see a focus on capacity building of associations, encourage recruitment of new members and promote a dynamic culture of excellence in the countries which she is responsible for. In her free time she enjoys swimming, music, reading and voluntary work.
Patience Yawa Aniagyei
Ghana (Age: 51-60)
Patience is Chief Commissioner of her association. Professionally she is a teacher. Her priority will be advocacy, creating awareness for girls and young women to discover their potentials and develop it to the fullest.
She would also promote rural guiding to help rural communities. In the free time she likes to offer counselling and pay visits to others.
Lilian Damie
Nigeria (Age: Under 30)
Lilian was first elected to the Africa Committee in 2004. She is a National Youth Adviser of her association. Professionally she is a Mass Communicator. As a member of the Committee she hopes to further contribute to the growth and development of Girl Guiding in Africa.
She also hopes to build a stronger network of girls and young women within Africa and other regions. In her free time Lilian enjoys cooking, reading and travelling.
Helinoro Rakotomalala
Madagascar (Age:30-40) Helinoro is a National Training Commissioner of her association. In her professional life, Helinoro is an Agricultural Engineer. She has a great interest in work in an international and intercultural environment.
She hopes to develop partnerships and projects further within the region whilst also supporting Member Organizations. In her free time she enjoys reading and walking.
