Eight teachers from eight provinces across Kenya are now working as programme managers for the association. They have been seconded to Kenya Girl Guides Association by the government. They all attended a week long orientation session with Kenya Girl Guides in September during which they put together a work plan for 2008. They also received training in management, a refresher
course on the Girl Guide vision, mission and goals and a briefing on the Kenya Girl Guides Association’s repositioning process. On returning to their provinces the teachers first responsibility was to confirm membership in their provinces and collect outstanding membership fees. They will assist the executive officer in the day-to-day running of the organization’s programmes and projects in the regions. From January 2008 these teachers will embark on a major recruitment and training campaign to enable the association to reach the ambitious goal of 1 million Guides by 2012 when Kenya will celebrate 100 years of Guiding.
